Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's family relocated to Louisiana in the age of nine. Decker then won a regional talent contest with a version of "I I'd like to be the Sweetheart of a Cowboy" performed by Patsy Montana. Decker resided in Georgia when she was fifteen years old. She had started to write songs and she was making regular visits in Nashville. Looking for an agreement, Decker visited music publishing houses and record labels. In her early teens when she was 17, a Big Yellow Dog Records representative heard her and began selling her songs to labels as well as artists. The demos of Decker were sent through to L.A. Reid by Mercury Records President David Massey, who was at the time in charge for Island/Def Jam. Reid then was able to sign Decker to a recording contract. Jessie James released her debut album in August of 2009. The album was self-titled release. Jessie James had a moderately popular debut record. Wanted, a song that was on the album made it to the Top 40 singles chart. Decker was a country singer who believed herself to be a traditional country artist in the past was shocked to discover that the album was not promoted or focused on the mass market. Her music came under increased scrutiny after the release of two songs. The next song, Boys in the Summer was a country-inspired track. Decker's album was titled Daughter of a Gypsy (or Sweet American Dreams), was dropped by Mercury when two of her singles did not chart on the chart for country.
